Step by step

Taking your impression

  1. Before You Begin

    1. Place your impression putty in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before getting started.
    2. You'll also want to brush and floss your teeth and find a clean, well-lit area where you have plenty of room to work.

    Have your double-sided mesh tray, two purple putties, two gray putties, and a timer ready before you begin.

    Once you start mixing the putty, you'll need to work quickly.

  2. Step 1 of 6

    Mix Your Putty

    For the double-sided mesh tray, you'll use two purple putties and two gray putties for one impression.

    1. Combine all four pieces of putty together and begin folding and mixing them with your hands.
    2. Continue mixing until the putty is one solid, even color with no visible streaks.

  3. Step 2 of 6

    Roll and Split the Putty

    1. Once all four pieces of putty are completely mixed, roll the combined putty between your hands to create one even log.
    2. Then, split the log into two equal halves.

    You'll use one half of the putty on each side of your mesh tray.

    Load Your Tray

    1. Place one half of the putty on the bottom side of the mesh tray and the other half on the top side.

    Make sure the putty is positioned evenly across both sides of the tray.

  5. Step 4 of 6

    Insert the Tray

    1. Place the tray into your mouth by positioning your bottom teeth into the lower putty first, followed by your top teeth into the upper putty.

    Make sure the tray is centered before biting down.

  6. Step 5 of 6

    Bite Down & Press the Tray Into Place

    1. Once the tray is positioned, bite down firmly and completely, pushing your teeth through the putty toward the mesh in the center of the tray.
    2. After biting down, use your hands to push the tray inward against the front and sides of your teeth while it is still in your mouth.
    3. Keep your teeth firmly together and maintain the tray in this position for at least 2½ minutes while the impression material sets.

    Try not to talk, shift your bite, or allow the tray to move during this time.

  7. Step 6 of 6

    Check Your Impression

    1. After at least 2½ minutes, carefully remove the tray and hold your completed impression up toward a light source.
    2. You should be able to see through the mesh where your bite occurred. This helps confirm that you bit down far enough through the putty.
