You need a retainer

Here's why you need to replace them.

Dental hygiene

Dental hygiene

The same as not replacing your toothbrush, not replacing your retainer is really not healthy. The bacteria that grows on your reused dental products over years can in some cases, infect and erode your gums!

Retain or Re-do it.

Retain or Re-do it.

Teeth naturally drift back—something called Mesial Drift. Without regular retainer replacement, the amount you invested in your smile could become obsolete if not retained properly.

Retainers wear out

Retainers wear out

Over time, an overused retainer can stretch and become relaxed and if used long enough… deteriorate! A new retainer keeps your teeth in the proper shape for as long as you’re wearing it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the most common questions about our doctors at SmileSet.

Yes. Not replacing your retainer is like not replacing your toothbrush. Even though you may be cleaning it daily, it builds up corrosive bacteria that can cause gum recession. Additionally, retainers can lose their integrity over time as the material becomes more elastic. Replacing your retainer every 6 months is the doctor recommended time of replacement.

A couple of bad things can happen. The most expensive one would be that old, corrosive bacteria can eat away at your teeth and gums causing permanent damage. Secondly, and also expensive, is that the retainer material can lose it's integrity over time and your teeth could shift back.

No need to subscribe! If you prefer to purchase "when you need it" you can absolutely do that. SmileSet makes it easy as we already have your SmileFile on record :)
